Susan
(Susie) Walsh, Ph.D. Executive Director Susie joined Committed Partners for Youth in 1999 as a Program Manager for the Bolder Options mentoring program and became Executive Director in the fall of 2000. Prior to working at CPY, she received her law degree from Villanova law school in 1992 and received her doctorate in Special Education and Community Resources from the University of Oregon in 1999. Susie has twelve years of experience developing and implementing mentoring programs for at-risk youth within Eugene/Springfield school and juvenile court systems. She currently sits on the board of the Lane Workforce Partnership and she’s a member of the University of Oregon’s Research Group and the Eugene Downtown Rotary Club. |
Jenny
Stern-Carusone, M.S.W.Program Director Jenny joined the CPY family in the summer of 2002, having just completed her Masters in Social Work with a focus on Community Based Practice. Jenny’s primary duties focus on the wholesome success of mentors and youth. Additionally, Jenny manages several mentoring programs, including design, implementation, data tracking, evaluation, and all reporting requirements. Jenny’s long history working with youth in the Juvenile Justice System includes spearheading a Defense Advocacy program for a Juvenile Rights Program in Portland OR, participating in a national campaign as a model site representative for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative, and launching a community-based Peer Court in a rural community near Eugene. Jenny also brings experience working in other social arenas, including domestic violence crisis intervention, counseling, social justice, civil rights, and archaeological preservation. Jenny is an active community member, long-time volunteer, health enthusiast, and mother. |
Jay
Baughman, M.Ed.Program Manager Jay joined the CPY staff as Program Manger in September 1999. At that time, Jay was completing his undergraduate work at the University of Oregon in the Family and Human Services Program within the College of Education. In addition to working at CPY, Jay was also working as a Behavioral Support Specialist at the Center for Family Development, which is another non-profit organization. During Jay’s time at CPY, he went back to school and received his Master’s in Education in the Counseling, Family and Human Services program at the U of O. On top of being a Program Manager, Jay is currently mentoring a young 8 year old boy in our TRUE Friends Program. Jay is an avid soccer player and loves any kind of athletic pursuit.. Because of his love for sports, he is our Program Director for our Bolder Options Running Program. Jay’s ability to be a good team player brings leadership and enthusiasm to CPY. He is all about healthy, positive relationships and enjoys watching youth and mentors move forward through life. |
Jennifer
Salvatore Financial Manager Jennifer joined CPY as Financial Manager in March 2007. She has fifteen years experience in accounting highlighted by several positions in the nonprofit sector. Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from SUNY Geneseo, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Oregon, and will complete a Master’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management Winter 2008, also from UO. Jennifer is an outdoor enthusiast, loves gardening and is a new mom to a beautiful baby girl, Stella. |
Anne
BorlandOutreach Coordinator Anne joined the CPY staff in 2002. Anne is our graphic designer and experiential educator. She informs and inspires adults in our community to become mentors. She is responsible for the design and production of the agency’s print material and website as well as programming and facilitating CPY's mentor and youth activities throughout the year. These activities help strengthen pair relationships and assist in positive youth development. Anne holds a B.A. degree from the U of O in Telecommunications & Film, a minor in fine arts, and an A.A. in Graphic Design. She also earned a Wilderness EMT in 1997 and regularly contracts as an outdoor instructor and ropes course facilitator. |
Jean WhiteDevelopment Director Jean joined Committed Partners for Youth as the Development Director in the fall of 2007. Prior to working at CPY, Jean served as an admissions and academic advising specialist for the Oregon University Systems at the University of Oregon. In addition, she worked in the business sector with corporate management after a lengthy career in public school education, where she enjoyed teaching, coaching and traveling nationally and internationally with high school and college students. As a career educator, she has over fifteen years of experience in fundraising for the local schools, arts, and sports programs. Jean earned her Masters in Language Arts Education at Oregon State University. |
Patti Hansen, M.Ed. Volunteer Coordinator Patti joined CPY in early 2007. In her previous employment with the Center for Family Development she administered and coordinated the Communities Enhancing Resiliency in Adolescents (CERA) federal grant program serving youth in the juvenile justice system. Patti earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies in 1978 and went back to school 23 years later to obtain a Master in Education, School Counseling degree from Pacific University. |
Sarah Collins Office Manager Sarah joined the CPY staff as Office Manager in November 2007. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Oregon in 2007 and is currently a graduate student in the Nonprofit Management Program at the UO. Sarah also serves on the Board of Directors for the Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts (MECCA), a local organization dedicated to diverting usable materials out of the waste stream and into the artistic endeavors of our community. Sarah loves bluegrass music, the creative process of making art, and canoe trips in mountain lakes. |
Kelly Nardo Program Manager Assistant Kelly joined the CPY team in December, 2007. She graduated from the U of O in 2007 with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies. While at the U of O, she studied abroad in Chile and Mexico. She found her way into social services by volunteering at local organizations including the Eugene Education Fund, the U of O’s High School Equivalency Program, Food for Lane County and Volunteers in Medicine. Kelly loves being outdoors, biking, food, learning, laughing, exploring new places and making friends. She is an enthusiastic supporter of mentoring because she is passionate about helping people discover and enhance their passions and strengths. |
